Differences between the catalase isozymes of maize (Zea mays L.) in respect of inhibition by various phenolic compounds

چکیده
Catalase isozymes of maize (Zea mays, L. hybrid Norma) were shown to differ in their sensitivity to phenolic compounds. Salicylic acid, benzoic acid, acetylsalicylic acid and o-coumaric acid caused significantly greater inhibition of CAT1 activity than of CAT2. The nature of inhibition was non-competitive for CAT1, while CAT2 was inhibited competitively. P-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) was the only compound to inhibit both CAT1 and CAT2 activity in the same competitive manner. pHBA was also the only phenolic compound examined that failed to induce chilling tolerance in young maize plants. According to these results, CAT1 might be a candidate for mediating the effect of SA on the induction of chilling tolerance in maize. Acta Biol Szeged 46(3-4):33-34 (2002)

Banding Patterns Activity of Antioxidant Enzymes and Physiological Indices in the Maize (Zea mays L.) Genotypes under Water Deficit Stress
Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Various environmental stresses, especially water deficit stress have several and major effects on maize growth and production. Drought is one of the abiotic stresses that due to the great variety of rainfall conditions, it is known from Iran as the most important factor limiting the growth and production of crops. Therefore, the effect of water def...

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...

Maize genotype (Zea mays L) single cross 124 was grown in water culture in presence or absence of 150 mM NaCl for 15 days. Inhibition of plant growth and modification of plant morphology are the most sensitive responses of maize plant to salt stress. The growth of the 4 leaf 5,7,9,11 and 13 d after stress th application of NaCl was strongly reduced in comparison to their corresponding control. ...

Identification of genes involved in salinity stress tolerance provides deeper insight into molecular mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance in maize. The present study was conducted in the faculty of agriculture of Urmia university, Iran, in 2018, with the aim of identifying genetic differences between two maize genotypes in tolerance to salinity stress, and the results of gene expression wer...

To assess nickel-induced toxicity in plants, Zea mays seeds were germinated and cultured on nutrient solution with nickel concentrations of 50-200 μM for a period of two weeks. Observed biological makers included biomass, soluble and total protein contents, and the activities of guaiacol peroxidase (GPX), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) in the l...
